Out to Lunch

For my birthday, Tom took me to one of my absolute favorite restaurants -

L.A. Burdick's.

They have three restaurants. One in New York City, one in Cambridge, Massachusetts and one in the very small country town of Walpole, NH - (relatively) just over 'the river' from us.

We're so fortunate!

It's very European in the feel of it's decor, atmosphere and, of course, cuisine.

We enjoyed local artisanal cheeses with a lovely glass of wine, my very 'favorite-of-all-time salad' - warm goat cheese with walnuts, watercress and endive with a honey drizzle (perfection) and a polenta cake (for the main part of the meal) with mushrooms, spinach and a beautiful demi-glace.

Then, we ended the meal sweetly with a cup of coffee (that was so perfect that I still remember it, a month later) and macarons (a.k.a. 'Luxembourgers') in a wonderful rainbow of flavors - chocolate, coffee, pistachio, raspberry, almond-citrus and lavender.

Tom and I had such a lovely couple of hours, enjoying each other and enjoying the experience. Then, I got to go to the adjacent chocolate shop (where their fame originated) - a little bit of sweet magic.

I felt.....edified in so many ways!

I just wanted to share a little bit of it with you.

I love the extraordinary moments - simple and grand!

Love,

Katy Noelle

P.S. I don't think that I have welcomed those of you who are new followers to my blog, in a while. Of course, I'm always so pleased to know that someone wants to share my little joys and to hear the latest of what I'm enthusiastic about. Welcome! I hope that you're edified or, well, at least, much cheerier for having come!

  2. Hello Katy:
What a perfect way to spend time together. The food sounds and, we are sure tasted, absolutely delicious. Such an unusual combination of textures and flavours which we are certain would have been a memorable tasting experience.

And, the macaroons! They transport us back to La Durée where when in Paris we always have lunch and then are seduced by the most amazing collection of these wonderful confections. How very fortunate you are to have such a wonderful restaurant so close at hand.

  3. Dear Katy,

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Katy, Happy birthday to you!!!!!

Such a beautiful present Tom gave you! I enjoy presents like this too, because you can enjoy them together. Your right about the restaurant, it could be placed somewhere in Europe. It has a very good atmosphere.

The chocolate flies and the macaroons look delicious. I was given a little book with Macaroon recipes for my birthday in April. Still haven't made any. I hope to have some time soon!

Veel lieve groetjes & happy new week,

    Madelief x

  4. Happy Birthday, Katie!

I've been MIA, too, and during that time, I celebrated another birthday as well. Looks like you had more fun on yours. What a great restaurant. I postponed mine till next year. That's only fair when you are holed up playing nurse, right? ;-)

    XO,

    Sheila

Thank you for your lovely comments at mine recently - it is so very good to 'see' you again.

Your garden will be worth the wait I'm sure and there are always so many other things to do during the summer. Hope you, Tom and the boys are having fun and enjoying a glorious New England summer.
